Job Role:
Overall responsibility for the finance function in the UK reporting to the Group Financial & Commercial Director / UK Operations Director.
Areas of responsibility:
Leadership and strategy
- Contribute to and help develop UK business strategy as part of Group plans
- Challenges the Group Financial & Commercial Director and UK Ops Director in the development of wider strategy
- Manage the UK finance team
- Establishes and maintain positive relationships with all external financial contacts for the Group
- Carry out performance assessments for direct reports and ensure correct training and career development / succession planning
- Take responsibility for recruitment and discipline of the UK finance team
Key Accountabilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts for ther Group
- Apply comprehensive management control to ensure people, plant, machinery and transport costs are within budget for the UK
- Manage Finance Team (Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Admin and Finance Analyst)
- Manage all UK balance sheet reconciliations - accruals and prepayments
- Maintain Fixed Asset Register
- Quarterly completion of VAT return to HMRC and be point of contact for the Group UK with HMRC (VAT, Duty deferment, PAYE liabilities) and reporting
- Primary point of contact for the Group with banking provider, including booking all FX hedges.
- Primary point of contact for the Group with external auditors, tax advisors and payroll bureau.
- Process and approve weekly payments to vendor base
- Review and approve GBP payment run, as created by the AP Finance Assistant
- Ensure excellent credit control processes are in place with the AR Finance Assistant
- Approve new customers credit limits in conjunction with the Sales Director / UK Operations Director as necessary
- Ensure systems are in place to monitor performance against budget, forecast and prior years
- Oversee UK rebate system (reporting to customers, understanding payment forecasts, reflecting liabilities in the monthly management accounts).
- Support the Financial & Commercial Director in the annual Budget and rolling 5 year medium term plan.
- Provide monthly rolling cashflow forecasts
- Ensure compliance with Go-Pak Group, legal and statutory laws, rules, policies and procedures.
- Ensure UK KPIs are reported accurately and on time
- Ensure UK financial SOPs are correct and challenged
Group Accounting
- Monthly UK reporting to support timetable of reporting via Group Financial & Commercial Director
- Understand and react to changing reporting needs and information demands
- Manage change programmes through employee communication, involvement and engagement
Commercial Oversight
- Work in partnership with UK sales and finance / commercial analyst to ensure a robust commercial approach is in place at all times for UK accounts
- Input to margin reporting / visibility and proactively identify areas for improvement
- Input to cost visibility and identification of opportunities for cost improvements
- Provide advice and analytics to business managers and the sales team to increase commercial performance of new and existing business in understanding of customer situations in the UK
Process Improvement
- Standardise / Optimise monthly report formats for the UK
- Make month end processes more efficient including checklist of key control checks (eg fixed Assets, Debtors Ledger, bank reconciliations etc)
- Formalise cyclical stock counts and reduce times of all stock taking in UK
- Review Navision business system in the UK and implement upgrades to benefit the financial process as available / needed.
- Ensures systems are in place for communication at all levels
Person Specification (minimum requirements)
Education & Certifications
- Qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA)
