There is a new and exciting opportunity supporting university students in Surrey. This role involves supportive students on campus delivering 1-2-1 support face to face helping with the management of their stresses around university life.

The purpose of this role is to deliver mental health advice to university students with existing and emerging mental health issues to help encourage a smooth transition through university and to help inspire the students to reach their full potential. Experience of managing a caseload is essential with excellent organisational skills. In addition, they must be able to establish and maintain relationships with students with clinical and non-clinical backgrounds, helping them lead a positive life and manage anxieties and worries.

Responsibilities

  • Run a triage, duty and rapid response service under the supervision of the Clinical Lead and in partnership with key stakeholders such as Security, HIVES teams and OSCAR, to provide proactive, expert care and support to clients in distress and experiencing mental health difficulties
  • Formulate interventions and support plans which have a measurable impact on students.
  • Engage with students over different platforms; phone, email, connecting with students who are willing and unwilling to engage with support services.
  • Deliver comprehensive group work and workshop programmes.
  • Act as a point of contact for students in mental health emergency situations.
  • Respond to complex or emerging issues by focusing on early interventions to minimise crisis.
  • Knowledge of GDPR, to maintain confidentiality and accurate records.
  • Manage support case work including responding to crisis, students causing significant concern, critical incidents and use of emergency procedures.
  • Deliver and promote peer mentoring and provide supervisory support to mentors.

Requirements

  • A relevant professional qualification such as Registered Mental Health Nurse/ Community Psychiatric Nurse/ Social Advisor/ Occupations Therapist/ Probation Officer and/or substantial experience of providing mental health advice and assessment to vulnerable adults.
  • Registration and professional standing with an appropriate professional body relevant to the area of mental health.
  • Work experience in a demanding environment e.g. NHS, Social Work or voluntary sector with clients with moderate to severe mental health difficulties.
  • Offering criss mangement and suicide preventions / intervention.
  • Analysis, interpretation and reporting on data.
  • Drawing on professional / specialist knowledge to solve presenting problems.
  • Significant experience of crisis/urgent mental health support including risk assessment, safety planning and referral
