Lead Examiner

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Examiner to join a leading team based in Derry/Londonderry.

The core hours for Lead examiners are Monday - Friday: 7.45am to 6.30pm however there will be some flexibility required outside of these times.

With an hourly rate of £23.17 per hour - This is equivalent to £42,174 per annum per 35hrs per week.

Job Purpose:

As a Lead Examiner you will be providing leadership and ensuring the smooth running of assessments and completion of quality assurance within the parameters.

Essential Criteria:

  • Currently hold live registration as a first level nurse and/or midwife on the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) live register
  • Experience of leading and managing a team to achieve set objectives
  • Experience of managing staff and staff performance as well as working in a leadership role in a clinical or clinically related role
  • Knowledge of relevant/contemporary issues in nursing, including recruitment and retention.
  • Evidence of involvement in the application of standards
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal - with the ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels

Desirable Criteria:

  • A degree or a higher degree in nursing or relevant post registration qualification in nursing
  • Recognised qualification in teaching (e.g., PGCert, Mentorship/Practice Assessor) or willing to undertake same
  • Additional live NMC Nursing or Midwifery qualifications
  • Experience of undertaking marking, moderation and uploading objective obstructive clinical examinations results.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Manager and Officer in managing operational requirements
  • Deputise for the Manager when required
  • Contribute to the supervision of staff
  • In collaboration with the manager, provide operational leadership to all testing staff including allocation of staff rostering and duties, and maintenance of quality assurance within the parameters
  • Undertake cross candidate moderation, cross station moderation and examiner moderation
  • Ensure the KPIs for marking, moderation and uploading of examination results are met
  • Work in collaboration with the Officer on routine and complex queries within a timely manner
  • Support the Manager in undertaking staff appraisals and staff development plans, including induction of new staff
  • Take a lead role in staff meetings and participate in associated committees, including the clinical working group and project teams
  • Lead in the delivery of external training events
  • Develop effective working relations with external stakeholders and candidates
  • Work in collaboration with the manager to review and resolve appeals and/or complaints in a timely manner
  • Deputise as Chief Examiner in the absence of the Manager
  • Work in collaboration with the manager to facilitate and support the External Examiner, External Reviewer and other quality assurance monitoring visits/processes
  • Undertake other responsibilities and tasks aligned to the grade and post when requested
