This position will be part of our Nelnet Business Services (NBS) team. NBS provides payment technology and community management solutions for K-12 schools, higher education institutions, churches, and businesses in the U.S. and internationally. We serve more than 1,300 higher education institutions and 11,500 K-12 schools across the globe. The User Experience team in Nelnet Business Services (NBS) is responsible for designing and delivering a positive product experience for our users. We are transforming how we design, deliver, and support our products. We need an experienced UX leader to help us grow and advance our vision. Were looking for a person that has experience designing products based on the wants, needs, and challenges of customers. Someone who is curious, a problem solver, trusted, and able to represent the user in our product development process. You will be part of a leadership team responsible for the technology strategy of our products and will influence cross-functional teams to deliver user-centric solutions.
  • Owns the user experience vision and roadmaps that amplify the success of our products in the markets we serve.
  • Establishes best practices in order to deliver customer-focused design processes.
  • Collaborates with Product, Engineering, and Client Services in discovery activities to define product deliverables.
  • Implements and measures metrics related to product design effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction.
  • Builds excitement and a shared purpose across teams to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Finds common ground and gets cooperation across teams/departments with minimum noise.
  • Keeps stakeholders informed of major initiatives.
  • Anticipates roadblocks and plans approach accordingly.
  • Collaborates with other leaders in NBS and Nelnet in defining strategy/solutions.
  • Keeps abreast of industry changes in order to recommend and evaluate new solutions/services.
  • Coaches team members and promotes continuous learning - for self and team.
  • Oversees departmental finances, including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Interfaces with vendors, consulting companies, and other outside providers.

Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.


5+ years of experience as a product, visual, or user experience designer. 5+ years of experience in management role.


Ability to align short-term goals with long-term objectives. Can comfortably handle risk and uncertainty. Knowledgeable in current and possible future practices, trends, technology, and information affecting Nelnet Business Services. Proven ability to effectively manage conflict. Proven success in building and leading high-performance teams. Ability to anticipate the impact of user behavior changes, new regulatory requirements, a change in business strategy and new technology. Ability to think about whats coming and prepare teams by creating an agile work environment, while promoting resilience.

For Colorado Residents: Salary is $150,000-$170,000
